HILTON VILLAGE HALL NEWS
Hilton Village Hall to benefit from three grant awards to improve its core facilities
Hilton Village Hall has secured grants from three different sources to improve its core facilities. It has been successful in attracting £20,000 from South Derbyshire District Council Community Partnership Scheme, £10,000 from the Awards for All Lottery Fund and the final piece of match funding of £34,976.40 from Biffa Award. Biffa Award is a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK, as part of the Landfill Communities Fund.
Hilton Village Hall is at the heart of the rapidly expanding South Derbyshire village, but now it is 22 years old and the glazed roof to the entrance hall, which is leaking badly, needs to be replaced. Its cramped and outdated toilets also need upgrading. All of this work will provide a more sustainable solution for the future, helping Hilton Village Hall to reduce its energy costs and water usage while at the same time providing greater comfort to all of the 50 plus regular hirers and many occasional hirers and villagers who use the hall.
Siân Davies, Chair of the Hilton Village Hall Management Committee, said “We are delighted to have secured this funding which is down to the hard work of the volunteer committee. We couldn’t ignore the leaking entrance hall roof and when one of the toilet partitions collapsed onto one of our hirers we realised that it was time to look for funding. We are a charity and our hire charges cover our running costs but any capital projects need to be met from grant aid. We are particularly proud of our success with the Biffa Award which has been a real learning experience.”
Jenny Hickling, of Hickling House Day Care at Hilton Village Hall, said “It is fabulous news and means that the corridor will be a lot safer for our elderly clients with dementia who do not understand the slip hazard warning signs.”
Gillian French, Biffa Award Head of Grants, said: “It is so important that we continue to invest in community buildings which are at the heart of their communities. Supporting the project to refurbish the toilets and entrance lobby at Hilton Village Hall will help to ensure that the community has a fit for purpose building to use for years to come.”
As Hilton Village Hall is so busy the work is being scheduled to take place during the school holidays to minimise disruption to hirers.
